The 1792 Flowing Hair Pattern was created immediately following the Coinage Act of 1792 as the newly formed United States established its first national mint. Although pattern coins were never intended for circulation, they laid the artistic foundation for American coinage. Just two years later, the 1794 Flowing Hair Dollar became the first official silver dollar struck by the United States Mint for circulation. Today it remains one of the most recognizable and historically significant coins ever produced.
