PERFECT CENTERING, PERFECT CROSS & TRESSURE! ONE of the BEST! KING PHILIP II SPAIN 1556-98 2 ESCUDOS NGC 61SEVILLE MINT (MINT STATE) KING PHILIP II. I would have to say this must be tied, “the” FINEST PIECE we’ve had in regards to Luster and Roundness (the other is in our store in a NGC 63 holder is about the same, regardless of Grade) and incredible gold strike!!! Actually this is one of the clearest I’ve ever seen the “PHILIPPVS” is completely in tact in the legend as well. Truly an immaculate piece, truly a Trophy Piece for the issue! Philip II of Spain (Spanish: Felipe II; 21 May 1527 â 13 September 1598) was King of Spain (as Philip II in Castille and Philip I in Aragon) and Portugal as Philip I (Portuguese: Filipe I). During his marriage to Queen Mary I, he was King of England and Ireland and pretender to the kingdom of France. As heir to the Duchy of Burgundy, he was lord of the Seventeen Provinces of the Netherlands. Known in Spanish as “Philip the Prudent” (Felipe el Prudente), his empire included territories in every continent then known to Europeans and during his reign Spain was the foremost Western European power. Under his rule, Spain reached the height of its influence and power, directing explorations all around the world and settling the colonisation of territories in all the known continents including his namesake Philippine islands. However, he was also responsible for four separate state bankruptcies in 1557, 1560, 1575, and 1596; precipitating the declaration of independence which created the Dutch Republic in 1581; and the disastrous fate of the 1588 invasion of England. Philip was born in Valladolid, the son of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Spain, and his consort, Isabella of Portugal. He was described by the Venetian ambassador Paolo Fagolo in 1563 as slight of stature and round-faced, with pale blue eyes, somewhat prominent lip, and pink skin, but his overall appearance is very attractive. ” The Ambassador went on to say “He dresses very tastefully, and everything that he does is courteous and gracious. Reproduction Pure Gold Enrada Bar Atocha 1622. Pirate Gold Coins Replica Shipwreck Jewelry Treasure. This piece been Struck in 22kt PURE GOLD (Solid) and weighs just under 20 grams! It measures 36mm (Long) x 22mm wide including the bail. A Very Unique piece and is about 2/3 of an Ounce and it looks just like the Authentic Atocha Bar (see below for the real thing)! Authentic Bar info: This stunning Shipwreck Gold Treasure bar from the Nuestra Señora De Atocha from 1622 was recovered July 20th 1985 by Treasure Salvors, Inc. The weight is 31.3oz (Troy ounces for gold are 31g’s as opposed to the traditional 28g) The measurements are 21.3cm x 3.2mm x 1.3cm, this is a very large bar (8 1/2 inches x 1.3in x 1/2 in). Poured & Struck in COLOMBIA from the Pena-Randa Foundry in 1621-22. I have researched many of the En Rada bars and this certainly ranks near the top in condition and clarity. Theres also an assayer scoop or bite located at center left (called the Bocado). These bars came from off the Keys Deep Water Wreck off the Gulf. In all my research and through colleagues long term research theres approximately 12 of these bars known. (Scroll below to read more on the Atocha 1622 Shipwreck). OUR LADY of ATOCHA, SANK IN 1622 OFF THE FLORIDA KEYS, HAVANA BOUND FOR SPAIN. HER GALLEON FILLED WITH ALL TREASURE: GOLD, SILVER, COPPER, TOBACCO, GEMS, AND JEWELRY. SHE NEVER MADE IT OUT OF VERACRUZ TO HAVANA TO JOIN THE FLEET OF THE TIERRA FIRME (MAINLAND) FLEET. HER TREASURE WAS SO ENORMOUS THAT IT TOOK 2 MONTHS TO LOAD THE GALLEON FULL (IN THE SUMMER OF 1622 IN WHAT IS NOW PANAMA CITY). SHE SET SAIL 6 WEEKS BEHIND SCHEDULE ON SEPTEMBER 4TH, 1622. ONLY TWO DAYS LATER ON THE 6TH, SHE WAS PUSHED ONTO THE CORAL REEFS BY A SEVERE HURRICANE APPROX. 35 MILES WEST OF KEY WEST. ALL BUT 3 SAILORS AND TWO SLAVES DROWNED QUICKLY AS HER HULL WAS RIPPED APART BADLY. DUE TO THE GALLEONS SITTING IN 55 OF OCEAN AND YET A SECOND HURRICANE HITTING (FURTHER SCATTERING THE TREASURE) THE FOLLOWING MONTH, SALVAGE EFFORTS WERE SEVERLY HINDERED. WITH THE HELP OF INDIAN SLAVES, OVER A COURSE OF YEARS, ALMOST HALF THE TREASURE WAS RECOVERED FROM THE SANTA MARGARITA. THIS WAS MAINLY ACCOMPLISHED, CRUDELY ENOUGH, BY SENDING SLAVES DOWN IN A BRASS MAKESHIFT DIVING BELL (WITH A WINDOW ON THE SIDE). MANY OF THESE EFFORTS ENDED IN DEATH FOR THE SLAVES. SPAINS SHIPWRECKED TREASURE CAUSED NOTHING SHORT OF DEVESTATION TO ITS FINANCES, WHICH WERE IN DIER NEED TO FUND THEIR 30 YEAR WAR. ALTHOUGH THE SPANISH RECOVERY EFFORTS WERE SOMEWHAT SUCCESSFUL OVER 10 YEARS, THEY NEVER DID FIND THE ATOCHA! FINALLY, AFTER 16.5 YEARS OF SEARCHING SHE WAS FINALLY DISCOVERED IN 1985 BY MEL FISHER (TREASURE SALVORS), PRODUCING HER GOLD AND RARE MUZO EMERALDS. MOST OF THE GOLD AND SILVER COINS WERE MINTED BETWEEN 1598 TO 1621 (THERE WERE ALSO EARLIER DATES, EVEN AS FAR BACK AS THE EARLY 1500S ON BOARD). TREASURE IS STILL BEING BROUGHT UP TO THIS DAY. Spain 8 Escudos 1717 “Extremely Bold Date” NGC 58. SPAIN 1717 8 ESCUDOS NGC 58 POPULATION 1! GOLD TREASURE PIRATE COIN FLEET EXCEEDINGLY RARE Literally ONLY 1 KNOWN! Most importantly for this issue (besides Rarity of course) is the Strike of the Date and this one is incredible!!! Remember these pieces were MILLED in Spain at this time (in fact, they milled gold coins as early as the 1500s we have some gorgeous Gold Escudos Milled from 1607 and 1608 as well). Imagine this press almost like a baker using a rolling pin to spread out his dough, this is very similar to the mechanical device use and as such, most to this type have fluctuating surfaces and details very common to see Soft Cross, legends, etc.. However, this piece has a Very Strongly pressed CROSS and DATE! In addition, typically these pieces are shifted and the Rim (denticales pie crust) are many times completely missing. The Centering on this piece however is Excellent! This Spanish Gold Type is collected by date, and this piece is the ONLY one known! The item “SPAIN 1717 8 ESCUDOS NGC 58 ONLY 1 KNOWN!
